Message from Lt. Anthony O'Boyle

The Alpine Sheriff's Substation handles law enforcement for the community of Alpine. Alpine is located in eastern San Diego County in the foothills of the Cuyamaca Mountains and on the western edge of the Cleveland National Forest.   Alpine deputies patrol the communities of Alpine, Harbison Canyon, Lyons Valley and Blossom Valley.  The area has a population of about 25,000 people. Alpine has sworn staff on duty 24 hours a day. The substation has a total of 27 sworn staff and four professional staff members. It also boasts a robust Senior Volunteer Patrol that provides invaluable community services including vacation checks and regular visits to homebound citizens.

Our staff utilizes comprehensive crime analysis, crime prevention and community oriented policing strategies in our constant effort to reduce crime. We rely heavily on community engagement and hold community meetings throughout the year so citizens can voice concerns and ask questions of command staff. Our mission is to foster a lasting community partnership with the common goal of keeping Alpine, Harbison Canyon, Lyons Valley and Blossom Valley a model for safe and family friendly living.

Patrol

Patrol deputies respond to calls for service, patrol the community, conduct preliminary investigations, attend community events such as Neighborhood Watch meetings and make presentations to youth groups and schools.

All patrol deputies are trained in the COPPS (Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving) philosophy. Using these principals, deputies analyze community problems and employ strategic plans in order to solve problems.

Detectives

Detectives are responsible for investigating all general crime cases and arrests made by the patrol deputies. If the detective assigned to the case determines that there is enough evidence to prove a specific person or persons committed a crime, the case will be forwarded to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office. The DA's Office will review the case and determine if the case is suitable for criminal prosecution.

Senior Volunteers

Senior volunteers have served the Alpine Station since August 1995. These dedicated volunteers provide many valuable services to the community including:

• Make vacation home security checks
• Visit the homebound (You Are Not Alone – YANA)
• Enforce handicapped parking regulations
• Patrol in marked SVP vehicles
• Assist Crime Prevention with public presentations
• Conduct residential and business security survey
• Assist in location Alzheimer’s patients

Volunteers undergo a background check, receive training to perform their duties, and are asked to work a minimum of six hours per week. Volunteers are always in need. If you're interested in becoming a Senior Volunteer at the Alpine Substation, contact Bill Gunter at (619) 659-2609.
