An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was struck by a train.

The incident happened on Thursday, January 28th just after noon in the City of San Diego.  The Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit investigates incidents along the routes of the North County Transit District.

An AMTRAK train was traveling northbound when the engineer saw a man walking towards the tracks near Washington and Noell Streets in the Five Points area. The engineer sounded the emergency horns and applied the emergency brakes, but the man ignored the warnings.  The train was not able to stop before fatally striking the man.

The Medical Examiner's Office will make a positive identification of the body pending notification of his family.
