Deputies from the Poway Sheriff's Station are investigating a deadly car collision.
It happened on Friday, February 12th just after 7:00 p.m. in the 15000 block of Espola Road in Poway. When deputies arrived, they found two vehicles, a Mercedes sedan and a Toyota sedan, involved in the collision.
Through the course of the investigation, it appeared the Mercedes was traveling southbound on Espola Road. The Toyota pulled out of the north parking lot at Poway High School and was attempting to make a left-hand turn northbound onto Espola Road. The Toyota was broadsided on the driver's side by the Mercedes.
The driver of the Toyota, a 54-year old man, died at the scene. His teenage son was taken to Rady Children's Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The 19-year old driver of the Mercedes was taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Sheriff's Traffic Accident Reconstruction (S.T.A.R.) team was called to the scene to assist in the investigation. Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the collision.
