DECEASED:        Edel Corrales Loredo, 62-years-old

On November 13, 2020, an inmate at George Bailey Detention Facility, sixty-two-year-old Edel Corrales Loredo, was transferred to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center via ambulance with a complaint of shortness of breath and fever. Unfortunately, Loredo's health steadily declined until he was pronounced deceased on November 21, 2020, at 10:10 p.m.   

Loredo was booked into custody by the San Diego Police Department on July 21, 2020, and was in custody on charges of:

Two Counts of 11378 HS – Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sales

Two Counts of 1203.2(a) PC – Probation Violation

11377(a) HS – Possession of a Controlled Substance

11379 HS – Transportation of a Controlled Substance

23152(b) VC – Driving Under the Influence, over .08

8 U.S. Code 1251 – Deportation Proceedings   

The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded to investigate the death. No evidence of foul play was discovered.

The Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and completed its report. The M.E. determined the cause of death to be respiratory failure due to COVID-19 with contributing causes of asthma, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. The manner of death was determined to be natural.
