April 11 to 17 is designated as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.
We recognize the dedication and lifesaving work of 117 Emergency Services Dispatchers at the Sheriff's Communications Center. They handle more than 2,000 calls for service from people and first responders across the county every day. Emergency Services Dispatchers work behind the scenes to send you the help you need. They are the first point of contact when people are calling on the worst day of their lives. Dispatchers are a lifeline in those critical moments. The calm, reassuring voice on the other end of the line, that is never seen, but needed to get through an emergency.
We are always looking to hire Emergency Services Dispatchers. If you would like to make a difference and help people every day, watch the video below to learn about our application process. You can learn more by visiting www.joinsdsheriff.net.
Reliable communication systems are critical during emergencies. Sheriff’s Wireless Services Division provides that connectivity. There are 52 sites in the Regional Communications System. They support 21,000 radios operated by nearly 100 safety and government agencies in San Diego and Imperial Counties. This makes it possible for deputies to talk to dispatchers, firefighters and paramedics to get you the help you need. Sheriff’s Radio and Wireless Technicians process 40 million calls every year. We also acknowledge the 52 employees and student workers at Sheriff’s Wireless Services Division on this National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.
