LOCATION: 2200 Dain Court, Lemon Grove
DECEASED: Rhona Barcelon, 30-years-old
SUSPECT: Jay Barcelon, 31-years-old

Homicide detectives continued their investigation throughout the night and identified the victim as thirty-year-old Rhona Barcelon. Her family has been notified of her death. The Medical Examiner's Office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy tomorrow to determine the cause and manner of her death.  

Rhona resides at the location of the incident with her husband, thirty-one-year-old Jay Barcelon. Based on the investigation, homicide detectives concluded Jay stabbed Rhona while inside the residence. Jay also sustained injuries during the altercation. Deputies forced entry into the residence and their immediate intervention stopped any further assault. Deputies provided medical aid to Rhona and Jay until relieved by fire personnel.  

Rhona was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. Unfortunately, the injuries Rhona sustained in the assault were significant and she was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving. Jay was transported to a local area hospital, underwent surgery, and is currently stable and expected to survive.  

Earlier today, homicide detectives arrested Jay Barcelon for one count of 187(a) PC – Murder.

Information from prior release:

On April 16, 2021, at about 7:30 p.m., Sheriff's deputies responded to 2200 Dain Court in Lemon Grove for a domestic incident with a male and a female reportedly arguing. When deputies arrived, they heard screaming inside the residence and forced entry when nobody answered the door. Inside, deputies found an adult male and an adult female. Both had been stabbed.  

The male and the female were transported to a local area hospital. Unfortunately, the female was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital. The male underwent surgery and is expected to survive.    

The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation.
