On February 19, 2025, at approximately 1:20 p.m., deputies from the Rancho San Diego Station, along with the San Miguel Fire Department, responded to a report of a battery at a residence in the 500 block of Sacramento Ave in Spring Valley.
Emergency services arrived on scene, with San Miguel Fire Department arriving first at 1:26 p.m., followed closely by deputies. Upon entering the residence, firefighters discovered a newborn male infant unconscious on the living room floor, suffering from apparent trauma to his head. Tragically, the baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
The biological father, 22-year-old David Ruiz, has been taken into custody and arrested for the murder of his newborn son.
The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances surrounding this tragic homicide are still unclear. Sheriff's Homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the facts of the case.

Bebé recién nacido asesinado. Padre arrestado.
El 19 de febrero de 2025, aproximadamente a la 1:20 p.m., los oficiales de la estación de Rancho San Diego, junto con el Departamento de Bomberos de San Miguel, respondieron a un informe de una agresión en una residencia en la cuadra 500 de Sacramento Ave en Spring Valley.
Los servicios de emergencia llegaron a la escena, y el Departamento de Bomberos de San Miguel llegó primero a la 1:26 p.m., seguido de cerca por los oficiales. Al ingresar a la residencia, los bomberos descubrieron a un bebé varón recién nacido inconsciente en el piso de la sala de estar, sufriendo un aparente traumatismo en la cabeza. Trágicamente, el bebé fue declarado muerto en el lugar.
El padre biológico, David Ruiz, de 22 años, ha sido puesto bajo custodia y arrestado por el asesinato de su hijo recién nacido.
La Unidad de Homicidios del Alguacil respondió y ha asumido la responsabilidad de la investigación.
