On February 19, 2025, deputies and the San Miguel Fire Department responded to a report of a battery at a residence on Sacramento Ave in Spring Valley. Upon arrival, they found a newborn male infant unconscious on the living room floor with visible head trauma. Sadly, the baby was pronounced dead at the scene. The biological father, 22-year-old David Ruiz, has been arrested for the murder of his newborn son.
On February 20, 2025, the Medical Examiner's Office conducted the autopsy and concluded that the preliminary cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, categorizing the manner of death as homicide. The victim was identified as a six-day old baby boy.
The Sheriff's Homicide Unit has assumed responsibility for the investigation. At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances surrounding this tragic homicide are still unclear. Sheriff's Homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the facts of the case.

Se determina la causa y la forma de muerte del recién nacido.
El 19 de febrero de 2025, los oficiales y el Departamento de Bomberos de San Miguel respondieron a un informe de una agresión en una residencia en Sacramento Ave en Spring Valley. Al llegar, encontraron a un recién nacido inconsciente en el suelo de la sala de estar con un traumatismo craneal visible. Lamentablemente, el bebé fue declarado muerto en el lugar. El padre biológico, David Ruiz, de 22 años, ha sido arrestado por el asesinato de su hijo recién nacido.
El 20 de febrero de 2025, la Oficina del Médico Forense realizó la autopsia y concluyó que la causa de la muerte fue un traumatismo contundente en la cabeza, categorizando la forma de muerte como homicidio. La víctima fue identificada como un bebé de seis días de nacido.
La Unidad de Homicidios del Alguacil ha asumido la responsabilidad de la investigación.
