Information from prior release:
On April 19, 2021, at about 7 p.m., officers with the Coronado Police Department and Harbor Police Department responded to Glorietta Bay near the 1900 block of Strand Way for a report of a body floating in the water. Upon arrival, a Harbor Police boat located a woman in the water and attempted life saving measures until relieved by fire department personnel. Unfortunately, the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident was within the jurisdiction of the Coronado Police Department and the circumstances warranted further investigation. Due to contractual agreements, the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Detectives from the Coronado Police Department responded and assisted in the investigation. Homicide detectives identified the woman as sixty-eight-year-old Patricia Viola. Patricia's family has been notified of her death.
There were no obvious signs of trauma. The Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy later today to determine the cause and manner of Patricia's death.
The investigation is ongoing.
