Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Post Date:04/23/2021 10:40 AM

Distracted Driving Month Screen

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department wants to remind everyone about California's hands-free cell phone law.  Drivers are not allowed to hold a phone or other electronic device while behind the wheel.  Drivers under 18 are not allowed to use a phone for any reason, including hands-free.

Sheriff's Deputies are always on the lookout for distracted drivers.  If you're driving a vehicle, your eyes should ALWAYS be on the road.  Being distracted for even a few seconds can have dangerous and life-changing consequences.

To watch our new public safety video on distracted driving, click here or follow the Sheriff's Department on VIMEO

If you need to make a call or send a text, pull over and park at a safe location.  Drivers should silence their phones or put the phone out of reach, such as the glove box or trunk.

Funding for distracted driving enforcement operations are provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
