On Sunday, September 7, 2025, at about 2:35 p.m., deputies from the Ramona Sheriff's Substation responded to the 700 block of Eighth Street in Ramona, reference a shooting. Upon their arrival, Deputies discovered an adult individual inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies requested paramedics and they arrived soon after. Unfortunately, the individual succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Felipe Ascencio, a resident of Ramona. The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old, Joel Martin Dukes III, a resident of Ramona. Joel Martin Dukes III has been arrested for murder.
Sheriff's Homicide detectives are conducting an investigation, interviewing witnesses, and gathering more evidence. At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation.
The San Diego Sheriff's Office extends our sympathies to the Ascencio family and all those affected by this tragic event.
Based on information gathered so far, this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community.

Una persona arrestada por un homicidio en Ramona.
El domingo 7 de septiembre de 2025, alrededor de las 2:35 p.m., los agentes de la Subestación del Sheriff de Ramona respondieron a la cuadra 700 de Eighth Street en Ramona, en referencia a un tiroteo. A su llegada, los agentes descubrieron a un individuo adulto dentro de la casa con una herida de bala. Los agentes solicitaron paramédicos y llegaron poco después. Desafortunadamente, el individuo sucumbió a sus heridas y fue declarado fallecido en la escena.
La víctima ha sido identificada como Felipe Ascencio, residente de Ramona. El sospechoso ha sido identificado como Joel Martin Dukes III, de 22 años, residente de Ramona. Joel Martin Dukes III ha sido arrestado por asesinato.
Los detectives de homicidios del alguacil están llevando a cabo una investigación, entrevistando a testigos y reuniendo más pruebas. En esta etapa de la investigación, la motivación y las circunstancias del crimen aún están bajo investigación.
