In 2003, human body parts were found in a dumpster in Rancho San Diego. At the time, the victim was not identified.
Nearly 20 years later, the Sheriff's Homicide Unit has used groundbreaking genealogy technology to identify the victim and make an arrest in this case.
This is the first time a law enforcement agency in the San Diego region has used investigative genetic genealogy to identify a victim of a homicide and subsequently arrest a person for their murder.
