Media Advisory: Cold Case Murder Arrest

Post Date:05/13/2021 2:00 PM

In 2003, human body parts were found in a dumpster in Rancho San Diego.  At the time, the victim was not identified.

Nearly 20 years later, the Sheriff's Homicide Unit has used groundbreaking genealogy technology to identify the victim and make an arrest in this case.

This is the first time a law enforcement agency in the San Diego region has used investigative genetic genealogy to identify a victim of a homicide and subsequently arrest a person for their murder.

The media is invited to attend a news conference on this case:

Friday, May 14, 2021
1:00 p.m.
Sheriff's Investigations, Crime Lab, Property and Evidence (ICP) Building Training Room
5590 Overland Avenue, Kearny Mesa
Park in areas marked for visitors

Remarks will be made by Undersheriff Kelly Martinez, Sheriff's Homicide Lieutenant Tom Seiver and Sheriff's Homicide Detective Troy Dugal.

You will need your San Diego Police issued media credential to attend this news conference.
