On October 19th, 2025, at about 9:27 PM, Sheriff's Deputies responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision in the 9000 block of Mission Gorge Road in the city of Santee. Witnesses on-scene reported the suspect vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Mission Gorge and Fanita Drive. The suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle, leaving the motorist inside and blocking traffic.
The suspect was seen by witnesses fleeing the collision scene on foot, running towards the San Diego River. The male suspect was described as being about 30 years-old wearing dark clothing. Deputies arrived and set containment on the area. The Sheriff's ASTREA helicopter and a Sheriff's K9 unit joined in the search for the suspect. With help from several callers in the community, Deputies were able to locate and detain the suspect, 37-year-old Robert Panza. Panza attempted to hide under vehicles in a residential area and in the brush. Panza appeared to be intoxicated and was taken into Sheriff's custody without incident. Panza was subsequently booked into Sheriff's custody for misdemeanor Driving under the influence (DUI) and hit and run offenses.

Conductor huye a pie de una colisión por vuelco
El 19 de Octubre de 2025, alrededor de las 9:27 p.m., los agentes del alguacil respondieron a los informes de una colisión de varios vehículos en la cuadra 9000 de Mission Gorge Road en la ciudad de Santee. Los testigos en la escena informaron que el vehículo sospechoso viajaba a alta velocidad cerca de la intersección de Mission Gorge y Fanita Drive. El vehículo sospechoso chocó con otro vehículo, dejando al automovilista adentro y bloqueando el tráfico.
El sospechoso fue visto por testigos huyendo de la escena de la colisión a pie, corriendo hacia el río San Diego. El sospechoso masculino fue descrito como de unos 30 años y vestía ropa oscura. Los agentes llegaron y establecieron contención en el área. El helicóptero ASTREA del alguacil y una unidad K9 del alguacil se unieron a la búsqueda del sospechoso. Con la ayuda de varias personas que llamaron en la comunidad, los agentes pudieron localizar y detener al sospechoso, Robert Panza, de 37 años. Panza intentó esconderse debajo de los vehículos en una zona residencial y en la maleza. Panza parecía estar intoxicado y fue puesto bajo custodia del alguacil sin incidentes. Posteriormente, Panza fue puesto bajo custodia del alguacil por delitos menores de conducir bajo la influencia (DUI) y atropello y fuga.
