A major vehicle collision that sent one person to the hospital is under investigation in Poway.
On Friday, January 2, 2026, around 5:30 a.m., deputies from the Poway Sheriff's Station responded to reports of a serious injury collision near the intersection of State Route 67 (SR 67) and Ellie Lane.
Upon arrival, deputies learned the driver of a GMC Hummer traveling southbound on SR 67 lost control, crossed over the center median and entered oncoming traffic where it collided with a fuel tanker truck.
The driver of the GMC Hummer was transported to a hospital for treatment of a head injury. The driver of the fuel tanker truck reported pain but did not require medical attention.
County Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) teams responded to the scene due to a minor fuel leak from the tractor portion of the fuel tanker truck. The leak did not involve the tanker trailer itself and was quickly contained with no further environmental impact.
The Poway Sheriff's Station's Traffic Unit is conducting the investigation to determine the cause of the collision.

Un grave accidente de tránsito que dejó a una persona hospitalizada está siendo investigado en Poway.
El Viernes 2 de Enero de 2026, alrededor de las 5:30 a.m., oficiales de la Estación del Alguacil de Poway respondieron a un reporte de un accidente con heridos graves cerca de la intersección de la Ruta Estatal 67 (SR 67) y Ellie Lane.
Al llegar al lugar, los oficiales constataron que el conductor de una camioneta GMC Hummer que viajaba hacia el sur por la SR 67 perdió el control, cruzó la mediana central e invadió el carril contrario, donde colisionó con un camión cisterna de combustible.
El conductor de la GMC Hummer fue trasladado a un hospital para recibir tratamiento por una lesión en la cabeza. El conductor del camión cisterna reportó dolor, pero no requirió atención médica.
Equipos de Materiales Peligrosos (HAZMAT) del Condado acudieron al lugar debido a una pequeña fuga de combustible en la parte delantera del camión cisterna. La fuga no afectó al remolque cisterna y fue controlada rápidamente sin causar daños ambientales adicionales.
La Unidad de Tránsito de la Estación del Alguacil de Poway está llevando a cabo la investigación para determinar la causa del accidente.
