On Saturday, July 18, 2026, Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a traffic collision with unknown injuries in the 200 block of S. Pacific Street in San Marcos.
Upon arrival, deputies and paramedics located an adult male in the roadway suffering from severe head trauma. He was transported by paramedics to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and provided a voluntary statement to investigators. According to the driver, an adult male attempted to forcibly take his Freightliner tree‑trimming truck while the vehicle was in motion. The man reportedly jumped onto the driver‑side running board while armed with a knife. A physical altercation ensued, during which the man fell from the truck and landed on the roadway. The driver immediately called 9-1-1 to report the incident. He sustained minor injuries, declined medical attention, and was released at the scene. At this time, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors related to the driver.
Despite all efforts by hospital medical staff, the individual succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on Monday, July 20, 2026.
The deceased has been identified as 56‑year‑old Mark Douglas Heninger, a resident of San Diego County. Mr. Heninger’s family has been notified.
Homicide Detectives assumed responsibility for the investigation. This investigation remains ongoing. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.
The circumstances and motive surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Based on information gathered thus far, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the community.

Intento de robo de coche – San Marcos
El sábado 18 de julio de 2026, agentes de la Oficina del Sheriff de San Marcos respondieron a un informe de una colisión de tráfico con heridas desconocidas en la cuadra 200 de S. Pacific Street en San Marcos.
A su llegada, agentes y paramédicos localizaron a un hombre adulto en la carretera que sufría un grave traumatismo craneal. Fue trasladado por los paramédicos a un hospital local para recibir tratamiento médico.
El conductor del vehículo implicado permaneció en el lugar y proporcionó una declaración voluntaria a los investigadores. Según el conductor, un hombre adulto intentó tomar por la fuerza su camión de poda de árboles Freightliner mientras el vehículo estaba en movimiento. Según se informa, el hombre saltó al estribo del lado del conductor armado con un cuchillo. Se produjo un altercado físico, durante el cual el hombre cayó del camión y aterrizó en la carretera. El conductor llamó inmediatamente al 9-1-1 para informar del incidente. Sufrió heridas leves, rechazó atención médica y fue dado de alta en el lugar. Por ahora, el alcohol o las drogas no parecen ser factores relacionados con el conductor.
A pesar de todos los esfuerzos del personal médico del hospital, la persona sucumbió a sus heridas y fue declarada fallecida el lunes 20 de julio de 2026.
El fallecido ha sido identificado como Mark Douglas Heninger, de 56 años, residente del condado de San Diego. La familia del señor Heninger ha sido notificada.
Los detectives de homicidios asumieron la responsabilidad de la investigación. Esta investigación sigue en curso. La causa y la forma de la muerte serán determinadas por la Oficina del Forense.
Las circunstancias y el motivo que rodearon el incidente siguen bajo investigación. Según la información recopilada hasta ahora, parece ser un incidente aislado y no hay ninguna amenaza conocida para la comunidad.
