DECEASED:        Saxon Fredrick Rodriguez, 22-years-old

The Medical Examiner's Office conducted the autopsy today of Saxon Rodriguez. Rodriguez tested positive for Fentanyl during a presumptive test. However, further laboratory testing is required to confirm this. The cause and manner of death are pending laboratory results and further evaluation.

Information from first release:

On July 20, 2021, at about 10:00 a.m., deputies at the San Diego Central Jail found an inmate, twenty-two-year-old Saxon Fredrick Rodriguez, unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and medical staff immediately performed lifesaving measures until relieved by fire department personnel. Unfortunately, Rodriguez was pronounced deceased at the facility. 

Rodriguez was booked into custody by the Chula Vista Police Department on July 16, 2021 and was in custody for the charges of:

245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon not a firearm

314.1 PC – Indecent Exposure

The Homicide Unit responded to investigate the death. Rodriguez was in a cell with two other inmates. No evidence of foul play was discovered.

Rodriguez is a resident of Chula Vista and his family has been notified of his death.

The Medical Examiner's Office has scheduled Rodriguez's autopsy tomorrow.
