UPDATE: Homicide Investigation

LOCATION: 100 block of South Nardo Avenue, Solana Beach
DECEASED: Thomas Merriman, 64-year-old
SUSPECT: Jade Sasha Janks, 37-years-old

The following information is fragmentary and has not been completely verified. It is based, in part, on hearsay and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.

The Medical Examiner's Office conducted the autopsy today and has identified the victim as sixty-four-year-old Thomas Merriman. Merriman is a resident of Solana Beach. The victim's family has been notified of his death. The Medical Examiner's Office is continuing to investigate the cause and manner of Merriman's death.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (858) 285-6330/after hours at (858) 565-5200. You can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.

Can a CCW licensee carry an approved firearm with more than ten rounds in the magazine if that high capacity magazine is legal?

The CCW license does not define magazine capacity, just the firearm. If the magazine and firearm are legal to possess in the state of California, and the firearm is listed on the license, a CCW permit holder may carry. (Note: California firearms laws are subject to change. It is the responsibility of the CCW permit holder to ensure the firearm & magazine are in compliance with California law at the time of carry.)
Does the Crime Laboratory offer tours?

Yes. We offer tours on the last Thursday of the month at 2pm (excluding November and December). Space is limited and spots fill up fast. Although tour participants will not be entering laboratory areas, laboratory personnel will be available to answer questions. Tours are restricted to high school students, university students, or adult groups. If interested in joining a future tour, please provide the requested information below. Submitted requests will be reviewed, and a decision will be made as to whether or not we can accommodate the group.
