AS Tony Ray-new

Assistant Sheriff Tony Ray joined the Sheriff’s Department in August of 1991 where he graduated from the 11th Corrections Academy. In 1995, he graduated from the 28th Regional Law Enforcement Academy. As a deputy he was assigned to the Las Colinas Men's Detentions Facility, the George Bailey Detention Facility, the Santee Patrol Station and Law Enforcement Support.

Tony was promoted to sergeant in 2005 where was worked at the Santee Patrol Station, and the Division of Inspectional Services. In 2008 as a Lieutenant, he was assigned to the Communications Center, the Lemon Grove Patrol Station, and the San Diego Law Enforcement Coordination Center. Tony was promoted to Captain in 2014 where he was assigned to oversee the Personnel Division and the Santee Patrol Station.

Upon promotion to Commander in 2017 Tony oversaw the Law Enforcement Services Bureau, where his responsibilities included the Emergency Services Division, Crime Analysis, Crime Prevention, Sheriff’s Licensing, the Regional Crime Lab, Property/Evidence, the Communication Center, Information Led Policing, Records Management System and Volunteer Services. In 2018 he was assigned to the Human Resources Bureau where he oversaw the Personnel Division, Training Division, Internal Affairs, Risk Management, Payroll, and Labor Relations.

Tony was promoted to Assistant Sheriff in 2020 where he oversees the Human Resources Bureau and the Court Services Bureau. Throughout his career he has worked detentions, patrol, courts, investigations, community policing, intelligence, support and training. Tony believes the in strong community partnerships, a commitment to public safety and continuing organizational education and improvement.

Assistant Sheriff Ray graduated from session #262 of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and the Naval Post Graduate school's leadership program. He holds a bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
