Brislin - 200 x 280Commander Dan Brislin is a native San Diegan and has served the citizens of San Diego County since 1997.  He started his career at the San Diego Central Jail and later transferred to patrol in North County. He enjoyed various assignments as a deputy sheriff including Training Officer at the San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute (Police Academy). Commander Brislin was promoted to Sergeant in 2007 and was assigned to courts, patrol, personnel, and internal affairs during his tenure at this rank. 

In 2012, Commander Brislin promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to the North Coastal Sheriff's Station. In 2014, he transferred to the Valley Center Sheriff's Substation as Station Commander. In 2016, he moved on to the Sheriff's Family Protection Detail, where he oversaw the investigative units for Child Abuse, Sexual Assault, Juvenile Intervention and the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force. 

Commander Brislin was promoted to Captain in 2017, with his first assignment being Law Enforcement Support/Crime Analysis. Later that year, he assumed command of the Santee Sheriff's Station, and ancillary command of Lakeside Sheriff's Substation.  In 2020, he left the Santee command to oversee the Sheriff's Narcotic and Gang Division, which is comprised of detectives specializing in major narcotics, gangs, human trafficking, auto theft and fugitive apprehension.

Commander Brislin was promoted to the rank of Commander in 2021 and is excited to return to the Detention Services Bureau. In his current role he oversees operations of the San Diego Central Jail, Vista Detention Facility, Detention Investigations and Intelligence Group, and Inmate Processing. 

Commander Brislin graduated from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) with bachelor's degrees in psychology and sociology. He also holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from National University.  His law enforcement certifications include graduation from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and the Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston University. 

Commander Brislin believes strong community partnerships and fostered community trust is essential in reducing crime and keeping our neighborhoods safe.
