COMMANDER HANK TURNERHank Turner is a Commander with the San Diego Sheriff's Department and is assigned to the Court Services Bureau, where he oversees all of the Superior Court Facilities, the Civil Division, the Court Investigations Unit and deputies for the County Mental Health facility, the County Water Park and the County Administration Center.

Commander Hank Turner is a 29 year veteran of the Sheriff's Department and started as a Correctional Deputy in 1992, where he worked at the El Cajon and George Bailey Detention Facilities. Hank became a Deputy Sheriff in 1994 and was assigned to the Santee Station in 1995, where he worked patrol as a training officer, in community policing and as a detective in area investigations. He promoted to Sergeant in 2004, working in Imperial Beach, Santee and Child Abuse. In 2008, Hank was promoted to Lieutenant, where he was the Watch Commander at the Communications Center, worked in Court Services, at the Deputy Sheriff's Association as the President, at the Narcotic Task Force, Rural Enforcement and ran the Ramona Substation. He was promoted to Captain in 2014, where he oversaw Courts Area 1 (Downtown Courts, CAC Events and Courts Field), the Alpine/ Rural Command and the Santee Patrol Command. In 2017, he was promoted to Commander and was initially assigned to oversee the investigations division, then the patrol division, then in Detention's Services overseeing investigations and the booking facilities and now oversees Court Services.

Commander Turner's core belief is law enforcement should be an integral part of the community and has worked with a variety of community groups, charities and organizations. Hank has worked with Shop with a Cop, the East County Regional Homeless Task Force, the Sheriff's Department's Youth Advisory group, San Diego Youth and Family Services, numerous school districts, and a variety of other groups and organizations. He has volunteered with youth camps for over 25 years like Camp LEAD, a youth leadership program which fosters stronger relationships between law enforcement and the community, while helping high school students make better life choices, increase student achievement, embrace diversity and build stronger ties to their community.

Hank Turner grew up in San Diego, where he attended high school and college, graduating with a bachelor's degree. He has also attended the Senior Management Institute of Policing, the POST Executive Development Course and the Harvard Law School -Workforce and Labor Course. Hank is living the dream and is known for his sense of humor and his barbeque skills. He has been married for 31 years in a row to his wife KET, a teacher who has been tolerating Hank's sense of humor for what seems like 34 years. Hank and KET have three adult daughters, two son-in-laws, two granddaughters and a grandson.
