Jesse Johns is a Commander with the San Diego County Sheriff's Office and is assigned to the Detention Services Bureau overseeing Operations.  

His public service began in 2007 when he joined the San Diego Sheriff's Office and graduated from the 22nd Detentions and Court Services Academy. He began his career at the San Diego Central Jail. In 2010, Jesse attended and graduated the 87th Regional Academy. Upon graduation he was assigned to the Vista Patrol Station. In 2011, he reclassified back into a Detentions role and was assigned to San Diego Central Jail where he became a training officer/corporal.  In 2012, he was selected and assigned to the Jail Population Management Unit (JPMU). Over the next three years, he conducted JPMU operations at the San Diego Central Jail and the Vista Detention Facility.  

In 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to the San Diego Central Jail.  In 2017, he was transferred to the Vista Detention Facility as the Administrative Sergeant.  In 2018, he was assigned to work Internal Affairs.  

In 2020, he promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and returned to the San Diego Central Jail as a Watch Commander.  Later that year, he was transferred to the Vista Detention Facility and assigned to work as the Administrative Lieutenant.  In 2021, he was assigned to oversee the Sheriff's Transportation Unit (STU) as the STU Lieutenant.  In 2023, Jesse was assigned to work the Detention Support Division Lieutenant position and was tasked to manage several large projects that impacted the Detention Services Bureau.  

In 2024, Jesse was promoted to the rank of Captain.  As a Captain, Jesse was once again assigned to the San Diego Central Jail. He began his current assignment as a Commander in the Detention Services Bureau in April 2025. 

Jesse possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from San Diego State University. He is a graduate of the 92nd class of the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) in Boston, Massachusetts. Jesse is married, and a father of two daughters and a son.
