Inmates may purchase a variety of commissary items to be delivered to them in their housing units. The items available for purchase include, but are not limited to: food items, hygiene products, stationery, reading glasses, pre-paid telephone time and over-the-counter medication.
The cost of commissary items is comparable to convenience store pricing and is purchased using money from an inmate’s account. Money is maintained on an inmate’s account from cash that they had at the time of arrest and through subsequent deposits from family and friends. Money can be deposited to an inmate's account through the San Diego Sheriff Commissary e-commerce website. Gift packs and phone time purchases can also be made on the site as well.
Any profits generated from Commissary sales are deposited directly into the Inmate Welfare Fund to be used for the benefit, education and welfare of the inmates in compliance with CA Penal Code 4025.
Important information about the San Diego County Jails and their inmates can be found on the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Public Information Plan.
