How to Properly Dispose of Unwanted Firearms
The San Diego County Sheriff's Office offers several ways for community members to safely dispose of firearms and reduce gun availability in the community. You can either call a deputy for a residential pick-up or drop off the firearm at a nearby Sheriff's Station.
Key disposal methods:
-
Residential Pick-Up: Call (858) 868-3200 for a deputy to confiscate the firearm from your residence.
-
Drop-Off: Safely transport firearms to the nearest Sheriff's Station. Make sure the weapon is unloaded and placed in the trunk or a locked container.
-
Sell/Transfer: Contact a licensed firearms retailer to sell or transfer firearms.
