What is RESPECT Project?
RESPECT Project is a character-building and mentoring program designed for teenage youth in grades 9 through 12. Led and instructed by active members of the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, RESPECT students participate in a 16-week after-school academy including decision-making classes, physical fitness, team sports and group discussions. Upon completion of the academy, graduates are encouraged to return to the RESPECT Project’s headquarters in San Marcos for leadership opportunities, professional development and continued mentoring. The facility offers a safe and uplifting environment for youth after school and during the summer months. Graduates receive meals, academic tutoring and access to a myriad of support services, including work readiness and counseling. Students and staff can also use the facility’s many resources, including its fitness center, recording studio, art room and gaming area.
How do I (or my student) sign up?
Students must participate voluntarily and give maximum effort during all aspects of the program. The RESPECT Program Academy is offered twice a year (Spring and Fall) during the school semesters. Classes take place on Wednesdays (girls) and Thursdays (boys) from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 151 E Carmel Street, San Marcos, CA 92078.
