• If you are stationed in San Diego, and have an out-of-state driver's license, you should apply as a Non-Resident
• Military members with a California driver's license should apply as regular residents

• Download Microsoft Teams.  You will be sent a Teams meeting link for the interview

• At your appointment time, staff will review your application, documents and answer any questions you have

• Print this PC26180 form - sign and date then upload as a Supporting Document in your CCW Pro account

FINGERPRINTS

On March 24, 2026, the California Department of Justice published Information Bulletin 2026-DLE-03. Within this bulletin, they addressed AB 1078, which as of January 1, 2026, required non-resident CCW applicants to comply with Penal Code section 26185 and California Code of Regulations, title 11, section 442. Meaning, "fingerprints shall be captured and transmitted electronically by an authorized Live Scan operator." (Cal. Code Regs,. tit. 11, section 4420). The applicant must complete a BCIA 8016 REQUEST FOR LIVE SCAN SERVICE form and take the completed form to a Live Scan operator in California to initiate the background check process.

Your BCIA 8016 REQUEST FOR LIVE SCAN SERVICE form is available in your CCW Pro application.

You must complete your Live Scan submission, in California, prior to your appointment. In order to proceed with your appointment, you must provide your completed BCIA 8016 form.

PASSPORT-STYLE PHOTO

• Upload a passport-style photo to your CCW Pro account. The photo must be taken against a plain white background. Please ensure the photo is not a "selfie" and does not include any other objects.

• Do not upload a photo of your passport for this requirement

THINGS TO UPLOAD

• PC26180 form (see above)

• Valid driver's license*

• Passport-style photo

• California Live Scan receipt

 *If the address on your driver's license doesn't match your CCW application, you must upload one recent monthly proof of residence, such as a utility bill, mortgage statement, etc. showing your current address.

AFTER THE INTERVIEW

• If approved, you will be required to successfully complete a course of training approved by the San Diego Sheriff's Office and upload the CCW Qualification Certificate to your CCW Pro account

• IMPORTANT:  Send an email to CCW@sdsheriff.org letting us know you have uploaded the CCW Qualification Certificate.  If you miss this step, processing will be delayed

• Log into CCW Pro and make your final issuance payment

If the above has been done successfully, you will receive your CCW in the mail in approximately 4 weeks.
