IMPORTANT - LICENSE FEES

Effective July 9, 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on June 9, 2026, the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego approved to amend County Ordinance Chapter 19-Sheriff's Regulatory Fees Section 21.1901 of the San Diego County Code of Regulatory Ordinances, related to fees charged for services provided.

The new fees will be effective July 9, 2026. 

Further, reviewing the fees every year will ensure our office maintains an acceptable revenue to properly and efficiently serve the public in a timely manner.

IMPORTANT CCW UPDATE

Effective January 1, 2027 Assembly Bill 1948 will take effect.

What is Assembly Bill 1948?

Assembly Bill (AB) 1948 was signed by Governor Newsom on June 30, 2026. AB 1948 extends the duration that a standard CCW license is valid from 2 years to 3 years. The bill also removes the existing provision relating to the validity period for certain judicial officers and clarifies that the 4-year CCW available to custodial and reserve officers applies to both new and renewal CCW's.

When does AB 1948 take effect?

January 1, 2027.

Does AB 1948 retroactively extend my current 2-year license to 3 years?

No. AB 1948 does not retroactively extend licenses issued prior to January 1, 2027. Important reminder: Current law requires a licenseholder to submit an application for renewal within 90 days after the expiration date of their license. If you miss this window, you will need to restart as an initial applicant.

Does AB 1948 change any eligibility or training requirements?

No.

Ink fingerprint services are available at Sheriff Headquarters, Licensing Division, 9621 Ridgehaven Ct, San Diego, CA  92123 during normal business hours.

The fee is $38 per card.  We use the standard FD-258 card. 

No appointment is necessary.
